Across years 7, 8, 9 & 10 all students are involved in enrichment sessions each week. As a school we feel this is a fantastic and unique opportunity, encouraging students to become passionate learners whilst adopting improved habits, attitudes and behaviours towards their own interests, wellbeing and physical activity.

Students are afforded the chance to be involved in enjoyable activities that they wouldn’t normally have the chance to do in the core curriculum. The sessions help students to develop their skills, knowledge, understanding, resilience and personal qualities (organisation, confidence, aspirations, independence, communication skills, leadership, working with others, focus & concentration, decision making, empathy) all of which we believe are crucial to their school and personal development.

Selby High’s Enrichment system allows ALL students, including PP, Sen, Boys and Girls, no matter what prior attainment level they are working at to access a vast range of enjoyable and progressive enrichment activities once a week for the whole academic year.

Time Scales

Year 7 and 8 students take part in enrichment during one PD session (40mins) each week. They take part in one chosen enrichment subject during each term (completing 3 different activities across the year).

Year 9 students complete their enrichment on a Wednesday afternoon between 1.30 and 3.10pm. Through Autumn term all year 9 students are put through a programme of enrichment opportunities led by school staff and outside agencies to develop knowledge and skills in aspects of first aid, leadership, teamwork, creativity and design, British Sign Language, personal ambition and health and wellbeing.

During Spring and Summer terms students are assigned 4 different enrichment activities from their choices. We hope that the students will be able to find something that appeals to their personal interests or gives them the opportunity to develop new skills. Through this time students also have the opportunity to work with tutors from Selby College and experience courses from the college in Sport and Public Services, Art, Design & Media, Construction, and Hair/Beauty & Catering, computing, Childcare and Early Years, Business and Tourism.

Year 10 - Pupils complete 1 or 2 terms of Enrichment during period 6 on a monday alongside 1 or 2 terms of Prep. Enrichment activities in year 10 include activities such as , sports (Golf, Lacrosse, Fitness room), science, computing, textiles and  Dofe. Prep affords students the chance to work with subject staff for a term on improving their knowledge and understanding in specific examination courses. The sessions focus on reviewing content of the GCSE’s and  revision.

Range of Programmes

Across years 7 to 10 the choice of activities available offers opportunities for students with a wide breadth of interests as well as offers a chance to be involved in activities that are not available within the core curriculum. Below are the enrichment clubs running for 2024-2025.
