STEP: SHS Temporary Education Provision

Rationale:

STEP is a provision that is intended to offer students online lessons in Maths & English that follow the same programme as your peers to help keep you inline with others and ensure you make progress. The aim of STEP is to make it easier for you to transition back into mainstream education when you are ready.

Some reasons you may be referred to STEP:

  • Medically unfit to be in school (signed off by a doctor)
  • SEMH concerns that are preventing attendance at school
  • Struggling to engage with mainstream education or receiving alternative provision part time.

When will the sessions run:

These lessons are set and will run at the same each day.

 English

 8.45am-9.45am Monday-Friday

 Maths

 12.30-1.30pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday.

The sessions will be ran by school tutors:

  • Kate Meadows (English)
  • Paula Graves (Maths)

How you will be referred to STEP:

A referral will be made if students reaches one or more thresholds:

  • Severe persistent absenteeism- referred by JSM in line with schools attendance policy (less than 50%)
  • Currently struggling to access mainstream education, but with no external AP on offer. Referred by TSE or GS
  • Alternative Provision is being offered and this is part of the package by SWA.
  • Referral made by SLA, Safeguarding Officer.

How we will set up a student:

  • Once a student is allocated a place in STEP an introduction email will be sent to parents and students to ensure everyone knows the expectations. Also to ensure the correct ICT equipment is at home. This email will contain the link to the sessions, and information about how to access the session through our school website.
  • Students will need a chrome book or laptop and internet access.
  • A timetable will be shared with the student and parents (and added to Arbor) so they know when to log on.
  • A review meeting will be set up, to review the progress and decide on the next step towards reintegration into school.
  • The introduction email will have a form attached that must be completed before STEP starts indicating that the student and family understand the behaviour and safeguarding expectations.

What you are expected to do:

Before you start your first session of STEP you need to complete a form which is an agreement that you will follow the behaviour and safeguarding expectations when online.  Please press here to access the form.

When on line there will be other Selby High Students on the session also. You MUST have your camera on so the tutor can see you throughout the session. However please be reassured that only the tutor can see you and no other students. You can hear other students, allowing for conversation to be had and for you to work together, but you cannot see anyone except the tutor and only the tutor can see you.

Please ensure the correct ICT equipment is at home and is charged ready for the session.

If you ever have any issues getting on to the session or want to share work or ask the tutors a question this is their contact details:
