The Day
Uniform
We are proud of the standard of dress at Selby High School and insist on high standards of appearance.
School ties carry a coloured stripe in respect of the four Houses (White — Garrett House, Yellow — Hockney House, Blue — Mason House, Green — Palin House). All school ties are now clip-on ties.
It is the responsibility of parents, carers, guardians and students to ensure that the correct uniform is worn at all times both in school and during the journey to and from school. Uniform regulations will normally be reviewed annually. Fashion, however, can develop new styles of clothing and attire very quickly. In circumstances where changes in fashion challenge the published uniform list the Principal in discussion with the SLT will reissue guidance to Parents, Carers and Guardians should the need arise.
Please see below for the Selby High School expectations for school uniform:

UNIFORM KEY POINTS
The following key points will help ensure that all students are in correct uniform every day:
- Coats must not be worn in the classroom.
- Ties must cover the fastened top button of shirts or blouses.
- Shirts/blouses must be tucked into trousers or skirts.
- Hats and caps are not allowed in the school building except on medical grounds or for outside use when the weather is sunny or cold.
- Students who arrive to school with clothing items, jewellery, or nails that do not comply with the policy will be given an opportunity to make the right choice and comply. Further refusal will be dealt with in line with the Positive Relational Behaviour Policy. Parents/carers/guardians need to be aware that this rule also applies to any kind of body piercing and, therefore, need to carefully consider the timing if they give permission to their child to have a piercing. In some cases the long summer holiday break may be the only time that allows the ‘healing period’ to be achieved in order to meet these requirements in school.
- Uniform Stockists: Classroom Clothing Ltd., 25 Finkle Street, Selby, YO8 4DT. A limited stock of ties are kept in school for purchase.
